Darryl

"Only real friends allow you to be mad at them"

A former teacher, police officer, and florist, Darryl was often found sitting at the bus stop on Main and 1st waving and giving accolades to the owners of cars with "cool" rims. He used to greet every bus driver by name and would help the elderly on and off the bus regardless of his own physical condition. The customized walker he got around with had become his signature due to the roller blades he retrofitted to its front wheels. His creativity didn’t end there; he also wore a bike helmet to protect himself from his frequent seizures that would ground him.

Darryl knew God is his friend. He explains, "I know because I get mad at him, and only your real friends allow you to be mad at them."

Darryl had around 50 seizures per year and was often hard to pin down. He slept across the street from the fire station strategically so that he can be rushed to the ER when someone called as a result of a seizure. One sad day, Darryl rode the bus to his mothers home in Anaheim, only time find the home empty because she was being cared for in a medical facility. A few days later, Darryl had a seizure and passed away on his mother’s property. We remember Darryl for his creativity, joy, and unwavering attention to detail and invention. Thank Darryl for your friendship. May you Rest In Peace.
